Hui Hoʻoleimaluō provides opportunities for STEAM skill building, place based learning, and community engagement through the maintenance and management of loko iʻa ecosystems at Waiuli and Kaumaui in Keaukaha.

Hui Hoʻoleimaluō is an organization focusing on loko iʻa (Hawaiian fishpond) restoration in the ahupuaʻa of Waiākea on the South East Island of Hawaii. Our work includes restoring native flora and fauna of the area, increasing cultural resources, and creating STEAM experiences that allow participants to build the skills needed to further pursue local STEAM studies.

Papahana Puakahīnano currently provides after school, intercession, and project-based student programming which engages with Hawaii students year-round providing place-based and STEAM experiences through loko iʻa ecosystems. It builds cultural practitioners through ʻāina, wahi pana, and ʻike Hawaiʻi hands-on experiences . Currently, Hui Hoʻoleimaluo focus in on the Keaukaha community and works closely with students from Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo, Ke Ana Laʻahana, and Lanakila Learning Center on a weekly and monthly basis.
